Thanks to those who noticed that I had not posted in a while! I have been making dresses like a madwoman and I have been working on getting my Blues Band up and running. Here are some updates, and later I will post full outfit details, I have so many you have not seen! My little sister had a baby girl! I made this dress with my own pattern. It's adjustable as she grows. I mailed it out to her and she actually should be getting in the mail today. Maybe I can get her to put a pic on Facebook so I can see how it looks. It was a single rectangle where I made casing at the top for a draw string. The bottom is a simple hem. Only takes 10 minutes to make. This is a "sample" and I guess I will have to make adjustments ( I have not seen the baby yet because they live in another state).  Let's see....oh! I added to my ink last week. Well I am officially bat shit crazy. I am about 5 hours into drafting this sundress using sloper blocks. I had previous tries using a book method that failed. Also I realized from the last bodice mistake that the upper chest is too baggy on the sloper and I had to take that in. I am showing you the progress so far. Espero que puedo hacerlo! I have rotated both front bodice darts to the arm seam, to be gathered onto the arm yoke I drew. Then I drafted the front facing for the V part. The back was easy and took 6 minutes. At least something was easy LOL

AM I LOUD ENOUGH FOR YOU, DARLINGS?  I love bowling, I love uniforms. TA-DAH! Found this retro bowling design on a ma and pa fabric store website, quite by accident. I fell in love immediately, and I plan more dresses with this fabric as an accent.  Ready to take your order....and your money hahah!    It's a twist on a 40s housedress pattern that buttons down one princess seam. It has one pocket, and I designed two. I liked the idea of an asymetric pocket design. It was easy to draft and make.  Quilting Cotton is the contrast material for yokes, sleeves, and pockets. Has yoke in front only  Lots and lots of buttons. The original pattern had 4 buttons. I think I used 12. The buttons go down along the where the seam sits in a princess cut, so there is an extra panel underneath the seamline with buttons sewed on it. It's only about 5 inches wide and covers one boob. odd design.... I always get button gapes at my waist.  Whadaya gonna do? HAPPY SEWING!

 Que Tal Amigos? I have not had much time for sewing lately, but I do have two handmade vestidos to post. This is an early 60's mail order pattern with a large collar and a contrasting skirt yoke and button detail.  I am posing on this antique store find that I brought home last week.  For the skirt yoke, I actually made the princess skirt sloper, as usual, but just created a fake yoke that lays on top of it. I folded under the bottom round part of the yoke and top stitched it down. It looks like a real yoke, but with less drafting work.  This is the last of the scrap Alexander Henry Universal Monster fabric that I have. I had it stashed and when I saw this blue stretch poplin at Hancock Fabrics, I knew this was the dress I was going to make.  There is a button in the center of the skirt yoke for decoration, I used my Mema's button stash and picked up these black buttons with shiny fake rhinestone.  The brooch is a yard sale find. I got my low lights redone...

Just Bought on EBAY! Size 42 Bust Kimono Sleeve bodice with V neckline and scarf-looking collar. Cute pockets! It looks comfy and lends well to color blocking. I will make something kick ass for sure!

A while back I started posting photos of fat women in black and white photos To celebrate the fact that women come in all shapes and sizes and that we can be glamorous just as we are. Most of what we see in vintage Hollywood is gorgeous, but what is missing is the plus size heroine. Today I am sharing one from my personal collection. I found this chubby flapper in a box of old fotos. I call her Maude and she sits on my vanity mirror. She inspires me very much in her beaded drop waist dress and her fur wrap! What a looker Maude is! She and I are going to get a gin and tonic at the local joint and then belt out some sultry blues while we make those silly men swoon over our curvy gams! Hey, anyone got a light for our cigars?
