I won this fabric from J and O fabrics retro contest! Well, I bought it with the gift card I won. I had my eye on it for some time. Cute, no? All those glamour girls! The color is lime green for the background. The pattern I used is like this one: I am too lazy to take a picture of the actual pattern, but you get the idea. It's a scoop neck with scallops. The sleeves are also scalloped. I am having scalloped potatoes for dinner RIGHT now. Is that weird...who knows...but it IS yummy irony. Dress Details: Material: Cotton, about 7 yards Closure: Side zip Fit: fitted bodice and full skirt with scallop neck and sleeve, kimono sleeve Sewing Time: about 20 hours of work including pattern drafts, and tests taaaadaaaaa! I found the bias on my sleeve patterns and cut them on the bias. The extra stretch is awesome for plus sized biceps! It can also add a cool design feature if used with prints!

I am making this dress today.  It has a square neckline and is sleeveless, so it needs facings.  You can Create your own facings from the pattern piece. Here are some photos on how I do this using this bodice. Easy! Cut out the arm and neck exactly as in the pattern. How far down to make the facings... My rule if thumb is stop above the bust line. This one is about 3 inches below the neckline. Draw an arc to the mid shoulder  line. This one could go a little lower because you can see after it's stitched and turned it will be narrow right at the corner.  Then draw another arc down to about 3 inches below the arm seam. You can play with the arc shape.  Here is the cut out front bodice one piece facing that will finish both the neck and the arm holes.  Here is the back facing. The arc shape is up to you.  This saves making an entire lining.  Happy Sewing!

I just could not bear the thought of being indoors! I took a day for myself and setup outside in the beautiful fall Virginia weather.  This dress is cotton with orange elephant buttons and rick rack over tan. This goes nicely with an orange ombré silk indian scarf I just bought. Did you ever sew a whole dress to match a scarf? Insane.

My life has changed so much in the last 6 months that I can hardly make heads or tails of it. I can certainly say that my life has been enriched in every area since I started mediation, prayer, fasting, and eliminating negativity. I can handle stress better! Sewing was always a way to help me with stress, and it still is! Just now it's even more relaxing! I am still Suzanne on the outside. Still a peacock in a pigeon city....still so different and so pretty....All you see before you is still mine....only now my inside is Divine. I am still sewing! I am currently working on a spring wardrobe comprised of a few jackets and dresses, all of which are interchangeable with each other. The color wheel is made up of browns, pinks, whites, greens.....well heck....let's just say it's all the darn colors, but I make em work! I am basically making the following in 1950s fashion styles: - lime green sundress -sugar skull jacket with white background and multi color flowers - gold linen...

Well, that is not my doog! This is a mid century McCalls pattern that incorporates a faux jacket into the bodice. Very tricky, I've spent a few months getting this dress right. Now of course it's the Pink Panther for my birthday dress! I got this fabric at Walmart this summer. I just adore this pattern and am gonna make more of it. There are a lot of color blocking and print blocking ideas to do with this pattern! I have some great dresses coming when I get the time. Hope you enjoy it!

I don't really identify with "Psycho Sue" anymore. I am in the process of emerging from a cocoon I guess. I don't have a name yet. You can just call me Suzanne. I have been focusing on developing my spirituality since October and I have not been feeling much like blogging. It's kinda hard to talk about sewing when you are preoccupied with enlightenment. LOL I wish I could explain it but I can't. I have just been pulled into this direction looking for inner peace and wisdom. I have been growing as a person and started doing daily meditations for lots of reasons. I guess I have become a Christian Mystic. I know, that doesn't make sense. But I never made sense anyway. But that's another story. In short, I kind of realized how much negative energy was in my life, and I wanted to remove it all. It included shuffling positions at work, leaving a project I had devoted 7 years to....among other things. I am feeling good now! I still have been reading comments ...

Hi blog friends! I have been asking for this sewing lamp for like 3 years and I finally got it! I love the clip on feature. I can move the goose neck to where ever I need help seeing. It's not a magic genie that makes black thread appear red on black material----BUT it sure is handy! My husband also bought me a tracer wheel made by Dritz. ( I adore Dritz) I am a brute with tracer wheels and I put em 6 feet under about 3 or 4 times a year. He also thoughtfully got me another rotary knife with extra blades! Can I take a moment to ask : "Can you ever have enough material in your stash?!" What didja get under your tree?

I know we can gripe and bitch about some of the less fun aspects of sewing, but it really is therapeutic for me! I have not sewn anything in a few weeks, and I am now getting a twinge of longing for it. I am not even really content until I can get the WHOLE day to sit and do it. Let's face it, that's the only way you make any progress. LOL When I sew, I think. Sometimes I listen to 40s or 50s music. I sing along. Other times is just me and my creative energy alone in the room (along with two loudly snoring pugs). I am content. I am IN THE ZONE, MAN. What is it about sewing that feels so therapeutic? - the whirling of sewing machine? - the time to yourself? - the massive feeling of being IN CONTROL of everything that is going on? - the feel of the material on your skin? -the actual satification of making something with your hands? - the sense that you are now connecting with your ancestors who used to have sewing a part of their lives? -the thought of how much you are going to e...

I find myself in love with little spring dresses in pastels and I somehow feel like I should be sewing heavy wool suits.... I am currently sewing with this light cotton fabric (see the pattern in previous post) Weiner dog Heaven. I am pairing it with a brown in the collar to accent the little doggies. Now, when I am done, it's probably going to be too cold to wear. Who gives a crap! I will wear warm tights under it =-) Sewing should not have seasons! I HATE that sewing has seasons, and I wish I could sew and wear my favorite delicate fabrics all year long. Does it bum you out too?

I am using scraps of the last dress to make this cute 50s pattern. I went thru a redraft of my kimono sleeve sloper. It's much less baggy in the chest. I think it would look better with shoulder pads.
